In the past, creating a plugin in WordPress wasn’t a cup of tea.
Manually I mean!
You need deep coding knowledge to create a functional table. So, plugins were the lifesaver. But those days are gone.
With the recent upgrade on blocks on WordPress, Gutenberg, and other builders, you no longer need to use any external plugins.
That’s true.
Apart from the Insert table in WordPress classic editor or Gutenberg, there are ways to create a table for your WordPress site. Let us show you how to create a table in WordPress without plugins.
Can we create a custom table in WordPress? And why will you create a table without the plugin?
Yes, you can.
And the good news is there are plenty of ways to create responsive WordPress tables without plugins nowadays. But first, let us show you why marketers create the table without plugins.
Plugins are pretty handy for adding functionality to a WordPress site (& saving time).
No doubt about it!!
But……. There are some flaws too. Let us show you some of the drawbacks that come with plugins:
#1 Leave your site vulnerable to security breaches
If the plugin is Installed from unknown or untrusted sources, you’re basically leaving your site for hacking attempts. Plus, it attracts potential security issues.
#2 Unwanted Compatibility Issues
Too many plugins can make it clash with the theme or other plugins. And we don’t want any conflicts that negatively impact site performance, right?
#3 Take up the space on the host & slow down the site:
A common scenario is to slow down the site with large amounts of traffic. Some plugins can slow down your site’s loading time and affect its overall performance.
So, How to Create a Table in WordPress Without Plugin?
Method 1: Using old-fashioned Google Docs (The simplest one)
Surprised a little bit?
Yes, the old classic multitasking tool that always saves us. And something most professionals are familiar with (& our favourite one).
Now come to the main point- how to create a table with docs?
Open Google Docs and go to the “Insert” and select the table, just like how we used to make the table on docs or MS word.
Now you must select the number of rows and columns you want in your table. In the meantime, Add content to your table.
Got the table as you want?
Great! Now select “Copy” to copy the table to your clipboard. Now it’s time to take it to WordPress.
Open your WordPress post or page where you want to insert the table. Place the cursor in the exact same place and just paste the table. And you’re done.
But before hitting the publish button, preview your post or page to ensure the table appears correctly.
See, technically; it’s just the copy-paste.
Method 2: WordPress Block editors (the recommended one)
WordPress is getting smarter day by day!!
And the new latest version of WordPress is the proof. The new block format makes publishing and editing content a breeze.
……….Especially the tables.
Let us show you how to create a table with a block editor. Open your WordPress post or page in the block editor first.
Look out for the plus icon (+) in the top left corner and Search for “Table” in the block search bar. Alternatively, you can navigate to the “Formatting” category to find the “Table.”
Unlike docs, here you need to select the number of columns and rows also. Plus, add the text to the sections.
Wanna change text alignment, font size, or colour?
Use the toolbar to format the text in your table cells. The block will generate the table automatically. No matter what method you use to create a table, we recommend Previewing your post to ensure everything goes as planned.
Method 3: Place HTML code manually (only for coding nerds)
First confession……this method is not for everyone.
Unless you have some basic knowledge of coding, you can’t handle this smoothly. To build a table, you must create a new WordPress page.
Again, click the “+” icon at the top and select Custom HTML.
Now write the code in the dedicated section.
Go back to the visual editor and see the end result. Adjust and customize if needed. Most importantly, check the width and length.
Cross-check again if everything is alright, and then just publish.
Method 4: Leveraging the free table generator
The shortcut way to create a table on your site!!!
There are plenty of free table generators online. You just need to enter the information and required dimensions, and the generator will handle the rest.
Once the table is ready, paste the table into WordPress. Here are some of the reliable table generators we like:
